Resumen

SUMMARY

Discover the Land of the Rainbow and one of the charming villages near Cusco, located 28 km away in the province of Urubamba. In this place, you will marvel at two beautiful lagoons, Huaypo and Piuray.

Chinchero is famous for its outstanding textile tradition, which originated in 1996 in the Cusco region. In addition to its well-known handicrafts fair, the community keeps its ancestral heritage alive by preserving Quechua as its native language.

At the epicenter of this activity is the Center of Traditional Textiles Cusco, led by Mrs. Nilda Callañaupa, who has spread the textile art of Chinchero worldwide. According to her, “weaving is part of our history and tradition. Each weaving tells its own narrative.

Today, Chinchero is home to 26 Textile Handicraft Centers, managed by the inhabitants themselves. Here, weavers use sheep and alpaca wool, along with natural dyes extracted from plants, roots, mosses and parasites, to make a wide variety of products such as llicllas, chumpis, chullos, bags and more.
